Shiris is currently employed at Dominion Energy in Richmond, VA as a business process analyst and has been working with the company for over 13 years. She enjoys traveling and one of her goals is to fly somewhere every 60-90 days. However, the past two years have been challenging in the world of flight and vacation. Her travel bucket list consists of visiting Hawaii, Paris, Africa, Fiji and Dubai between 2023 and 2025. Shiris also likes to spend her free time with her fiancé and friends, as well as tailgating NFL/college football games.

She decided to attend Averett Online due to a co-worker, Monica Davies, who attended and recommended the program to her. Monica spoke very highly of the school and said that Shiris would love the programs.

Before attending Averett Online, she explained that she never really liked school as a child and when she enrolled at Averett she vowed to do her very best. The outcome of that vow landed her a well-deserved spot on the Dean’s list for the 2021 spring semester. Her favorite thing about the program is the attentiveness of the advisors.

A Masters Degree is something I thought I would never be able to accomplish. Data Analytics is a new program for Averett and I wanted a Masters in something new and unique. Also, Data Analytics is one of those fields that is high in demand right now. – Timothy Ponikvar, MSADA’20

Timothy Ponikvar started his journey with Averett in 2017, when he started his Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. He joined the program at Averett’s satellite office in Quantico, where he was stationed in the Marine Corps. However, after 18 months of attending the program he had to withdraw due to personal reasons. After moving to Florida, he decided to continue his education. He finished his BBA, and eventually decided to obtain his Masters.

Throughout his education, Timothy has enjoyed working with Averett’s professors on a regular basis. As he is challenged to think critically in his course work. We asked Timothy to share advice for anyone who is thinking about returning to school, and he said “to definitely see what Averett has to offer. The faculty and staff are here for you every step of the way, which make the process much easier.”

As a teenager, I have always pictured myself with my college degree. I was accepted to many universities, but my life took a different turn. However, the desire for my college degree did not go away. So my motivation is accomplishing a dream that I have imagined so long ago. My motivation also includes being an example for my children and letting them know to NEVER GIVE UP on your life dreams and aspirations. I am also the first person in my family to attend college, so this degree is not only for me. It’s for us.

Because I have colleagues that have already been through the program, they usually keep me motivated. Who really wants to be back at that stage in life where how many “likes” you get on your social media platforms for your 100^th selfie of the week seem to be more important (and all-consuming) to your 4,305 friends than what really matters most to you – making a profound difference both in your world and in łŮłó±đĚýworld. Though there are certainly teens achieving incredible things at their young age, there’s just really no comparison between earning your Bachelor in Business Administration right out of high school vs. going back to school when you’re in your 20s, 30s, 40s, or 50+s. Your focus on the big picture of how your BBA degree will help you be of service to others, your ability to enjoy the journey and embrace each and every college course, and your choice regarding how to spend your Friday nights, are all vastly different when you pursue your BBA degree when you’re older (and know a lot more) instead of when you’re 18 (when you think you already know everything)!

Had you attended college right out of high school, many of the concepts, scenarios, and research studies you would have explored back then would have been hard to relate to, challenging to understand, or just not meaningful to you in any real-world way.

4. It’s your ticket out or up the next step on that corporate ladder.

Whether you’ve been wanting to be promoted to a managerial level with your current employer, or you have been looking to change jobs and secure that dream position, obtaining a Bachelor in Business Administration degree will significantly help you to accomplish that goal.
